The Brits are back buying.
Spain has always been a popular location for the Brits, whether it’s the resorts of the southern Spanish coastline. The mystical northern districts. Or the diverse islands of the Balearics.
However, since the pandemic, lockdowns, and restrictions have been lifted it seems that the desire to own a second holiday home somewhere overseas, sunny and warm has escalated.
Research shows this year British ex-pats have reserved the highest amount of properties to purchase in Spain since 2015.
A top priority on the Brits wish list for a holiday home seems to be; A property that is ready to move into. Homes with spacious interiors as working from home has now become the new norm. Properties with terraces and balconies that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
Three-bedroom townhouses or three-bedroom apartments near to the sea seem to be a favourite with British buyers. The reason for this is that it is easier for them to just lock up the home and go whenever they need to. Instead of having to organise gardeners or cleaners to manage a bigger property.
Sales and marketing director Marc Pritchard of Taylor Wimpey España has said that this rise in buying second-holiday homes abroad comes directly off the back of the global pandemic.
He comments that “Many Brits are now free to work from home and if they buy a property in Spain they can do so with even greater geographical flexibility than before.”
“The idea of owning a property overseas is gaining traction with many families looking to rebalance their lifestyle post-pandemic.”
It seems that Spain offers a far better value than the overpriced UK market and this, in turn, attracts more British buyers.
